Justice for David Roberts

On January 20th, 2013 my two and a half year old son, David Roberts, died two days after becoming a victim of severe adult-inflicted, abusive head trauma sustained while he was with his two daycare providers on January 18, 2013 - a husband and wife who were the only two caregivers that day.

He was healthy, happy, and adorable…I dropped him off early in the morning on January 18th, and I never saw him awake again because the injuries were so significant that multiple doctors and professionals stated that it could only have happened while in their care, and would have been shortly before they claim he “shrieked and collapsed” at 5:00pm.

When the ambulance arrived on Friday, January 18th 2013 he was already in a coma and never woke up.  He was declared brain dead from the injuries after fighting to stay alive on life support and lost his fight on Sunday, January 20, 2013

The petition we started is still on change.org at:

https://www.change.org/p/restrict-any-people-with-felonies-from-working-in-childcare-disclose-all-staff-background-check-results-to-parents-so-they-can-make-informed-decisions-regarding-the-life-of-their-child-ren-felons-should-work-at-other-places-away-from-our-child-ren

The daycare was licensed by the State of Washington & the Military.

We had been told that both providers had cleared background checks.

Examples of convictions allowed by the Director's List (click for the full list):

  • Assault 3

  • Assault 4

  • Burglary

  • Custodial Sexual Misconduct

  • Harassment

  • Malicious Mischief

  • Malicious Placement of an explosive 2

  • Promoting Pornography

  • Patronizing a Prostitute

  • Reckless Endangerment

  • Residential Burglary

Do these seem like minor offenses to you?  NO!  Please sign the petition that my husband and I created on change.org to try and get the laws changed so that no felon can have unsupervised access to children in licensed childcare, and keep transparency that allows parents to see the ENTIRE background check results of a potential child care provider - not just what has occurred in the last five years.
